Faerie Godfather's Day to be celebrated June 5
Faerie Godfather's Day to be celebrated June 5by news reports

More hallowed than a mere Hallmark holiday, a day honoring Faerie Godfathers throughout the entire galaxy has been proclaimed by Faerie Empress Sassi Fae.

"Faerie Godfather's Day will be celebrated on the first Saturday in June, the halfway point between traditional Mother's Day and Father's Day," says Sassi Fae, noting that this year's inaugural celebration takes place on June 5.

The idea for this holiday was conceived by Crazy Bear and Ribbon, members of the Radical Faerie community in Nashville, Tenn. Their concept stems from the importance of honoring older gay men for the valuable mentoring they provide to both gay and straight youth.

"Society doesn't want to talk about the role older gay men play in guiding young men to be healthy male adults," Crazy Bear says. "So my idea was to create a day and a website where men can tell their stories about their own Faerie Godfathers."

As part of the celebration, organizers are seeking stories from gay and straight men that identify having a gay man as a role model, regardless of age.

"We are looking for all kinds of stories, ranging from heart rendering tales of the boy with no dad to naughty tales about "gay old Uncle Fred," says Ribbon. "We are looking for rites of passage stories that span the spectrum, including those with sexual themes."

In addition organizers are looking for submissions of art and photography that communicates the spirit of Faerie Godfather's Day. We want the gay communities help to develop a line of greeting cards and promote the day with creative events. We are encouraging men to send cards and take their Faerie Godfathers out for dinner or maybe to the bar for drinks. We encourage churches, community groups and gay businesses such as bookstores, nightclubs etc. to develop theme promotions to promote Faerie Godfather's Day.
